I’m attached to my phone like a teenage girl I’m attached to my phone like how a teenage girl is attached to hers. It’s my lifeline to a lot of things: work, school, social networks, email, texting, camera, music, etc. Plus, my phone has replaced my house landline. So on the days I inadvertently forget to charge my phone, and have no access to a charger throughout the day, I’m pretty much S.O.L. My lovely wife gave me the Mophie Juice Pack (Galaxy S4) for Christmas, and it is a great solution for a backup battery or charging system.
It slips onto your phone just as any case would. The one I received is black and has a nice smooth matte finish complete with pass-through buttons. Plug in your charger and both your phone and Mophie case will begin charging (Your original phone charger should work, but I am unsure if this is the case with other phone models). You can also charge your phone and mophie separately. The case seems sturdy, but definitely adds a decent amount of weight to the phone.
When you need to use the Mophie, simply hit the on/off toggle switch on the back of the case and your phone will begin to charge. It has a 4-light gauge that displays how much charge is left in the pack. When turned on, It gets slightly warm, but not so much that it should cause any concern. The few times that I’ve used the Mophie, I’ve let my phone reach 20% and the pack charged up my Galaxy S4 to an average of 80% each time. Given normal usage, I can easily go 2 days without charging. [Added Note: My wife’s iPhone 5 Mophie Case charges back up to 85% on average, but is NOT usable with her original charger].
Verdict – Mo Battery, Less Problems
This is a solid product that replaces an everyday case and adds the benefit of an extra battery. At first glance, you may not even notice the increase in size, but the weight takes a second to get used to. My biggest issue is being unable to use it with my running armband, but if I can find one that fits it could double as a weighted band. Just have to remember to switch arms each outing.
You can purchase it at most electronic retail stores and via the Mophie website. It’s also available on Amazon.com, but be wary of knockoffs.
***Warning: For those who use your phone while lying in bed, hold your phone with two hands. Getting hit in the face with the S4 + Mophie Pack is not fun.
